First Annual General Meeting of English UK South West

The first Annual General Meeting of English UK South West member schools is widely regarded as an success. Thank you to Mark Waistell and the team at Accent International, who organised the event at Bicton College in Devon on Saturday 15th May 2010.

In addition to the AGM, members were able to attend a number of lectures and workshops on management, marketing, teaching and learning in the EFL field. The sessions were extremely useful to both the academic and administrative staff that attended from English UK schools located in the region; the English UK South West committee would also like to extend particular thanks to Tony Millns who was able to attend and present a session on English UK, the regional groups, and the state of affairs in the EFL world.

During the Annual General Meeting, Dean Jones from LAL Torbay was elected Chair of English UK South West. Dean commented: ''Many students choose to study in the UK because of the academic quality of courses here, and it is vital for our schools to maintain and promote excellence in language tuition. Therefore, my school participates fully with English language teaching organisations and other trade bodies in the UK: in addition to the benefits of membership in English UK and of being accredited and inspected through Accreditation UK and the British Council, organisations such as English UK South West offer my school the opportunity to develop our profile, courses, programmes and academic standards even further. I am delighted to have been elected chairman of English UK South West and to have the opportunity to support the aims of this organisation.'
