Our General English courses focus on communication. Every day, you will have classes which focus on the language itself: grammar and vocabulary, alongside speaking, reading, writing and listening, where you get to put the language into practice. We allow you to use the language in a real context and encourage your use of English inside and outside the classroom.

General English Intensive (full-time course) 
The Intensive English classes have a different focus to the General English classes. They follow the same syllabus but aim to provide you with more grammar, vocabulary and skills practice. The increased focus on skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) means that you are in a position to make even better use of the language you are learning. For those students who have only limited time to study and who do not wish to take an exam, Intensive English is the best way to ensure that you get the maximum benefit out of your time at International House Bristol.

We prepare students for Cambridge PET, FCE, CAE and CPE (Proficiency) and BULATS exams.  
In addition to General English classes in the morning, you'll have 10 specific 45-minute Cambridge exam classes in the afternoon. These classes will help you to:  
 
• practise the different tasks you have to do for each part of the exam 
•learn personal strategies to do the tasks more effectively 
•organise your learning 
 
Please note that in order to run a Cambridge exam class for a particular exam we need to have a large enough number of students.

Junior Summer and Specialist courses 
Junior Summer Courses 
On our Junior Summer Courses students study a varied programme of lessons, which cover grammar, vocabulary, phrases and skills that are relevant to your level. There is a strong emphasis on making the lessons fun and covering lively relevant topics such as popular music and fashion. At all levels, you will learn real language that you can use in real conversation with other students and with English speakers outside the school. 
You can join our Junior Summer Classes from late June to late August every year. As a Junior student, you will study in mixed-nationality, junior-only groups at one of our summer school centres. You can also join one of our Specialist Courses in Video Making, Drama or Journalism in the afternoon.
